Welcome! The 2009-2010 school year promises to be the best yet. Special greetings to students who are in English 11 Honors and MAP English 11/11 Honors. Go to the "CLASSES" tab on the left and you can learn what we are doing in class or double check your homework. For those interested in or have a question about the Media Arts Program, you can find information by clicking on the "PROGRAMS" tab.
English at the 11th grade is designed to continue the skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The reading content includes selections from both classic and modern literature of The United States of America as well as the foundational influence of Shakespeare's dramas and Native American stories and writings. Student writing continues Saratoga's emphasis on expository literature analysis with research and creative writing tied in as critical components of the writing program. Emphasis is on developing student voice, audience awareness, and strong support. There is systematic instruction in grammar and a vocabulary program geared to prepare students to be better users of the written and spoken word. Socratic seminars, class discussions, individual and group presentations round out the listening and speaking opportunities for students. Come prepared to think after having prepared by thinking!
